The Quality of Being "when you do something, if you fix your mind on the activity with some confidence, the quality of your state of mind is the activity itself. When you are concentrated on the quality of your being, you are prepared for the activity."
(Shunryu Suzuki)
Yogamonks classes develop the sensivity to differentiate between mind and consciousness and the compassionate acceptance of 'what is.'The class is designed to reveal one's 'true' physical form and offer the experience of pure consciousness in the present moment.
I have recently set up a new and updated site. Please find details on me by visiting http://www.urbanyogamonkey.com.
My teachers website is: http://www.yogamonks.com (not yogamonks.co.uk)
With the Yogamonks method expect:
-To develop a lean, agile, flexible, strong body.
-A precise method designed to reveal the ‘stuck/ resistant places in the body (in movement) and the mind
(in personality) using specific postures.
-Powerful Fluid dynamic vinyasa developing a conscious and supportive mind-body relationship .
-A practice that cultivates the yogic connection between breath and movement through pranayama vinyasa.
-An increase in awareness, concentration and the level of freedom from physical tightness, mental stress and anxiety.
One of the defining features of this method is its different approach. Yogamonks will offer the possibility of a new interaction between body and mind. This has the potential to create a fresh objective and new way of experiencing oneself, as with the practice of meditation. The ‘how’ of teaching is as important as ‘what’ is being taught, for if the ‘how’ of teaching invites an open and friendly dialogue, the individual student can then begin to enjoy a fresh relationship with themselves unhindered by previous inhibitions. If the ‘how’ of teaching re-enforces our old patterns and inhibitions, then we will be further away from the ‘liberation’ the practice offers regardless of it’s potential for liberation. When the ‘how’ allows us to see ourselves within the learning process in an open, compassionate and non-judgmental way, regardless of our place on the road to liberation, we see the end is found within our present state.
My inspiration for teaching can be found in the quest of Embodiment, for only inside ones direct experience can we know our truth. This is why I feel it is the direct experience in us, the student, that is the true catalyst for our conscious integration within our environment.
Then, when the student is inspired by their own knowledge, they see that when our life force is offered a conscious, clear passage, it can do almost anything!
The teaching method is supported through the teachings of Feldenkrais and Structural Integration alongside those of Taoism and of course Yoga. Fascial release, softening and ‘letting go’ are constant reference within movement. The consequent energetic expansion which can accompany ‘letting go’ seems, in some way, similar to the experience of expanded consciousness. This ‘expanded’ state helps us discover alignment through personal experience which, in turn, invites a long term re-eduction of the body-mind connection.
The classes are filled with humour, lightness of spirit yet a strong sense of groundness. Vinyasas are original, constantly evolving and vary with the ‘shape and cut’ of their surrounding. However, the principles that underlie them are the constant thread that mark the work regardless of the style of vinyasa or thread it appears as.
Ease and softness is the aim so to allow life access to itself. We see, and have an opportunity to clear our blockages through asana, pranayama, seated meditation until we and our surroundings are the same.
